CX Huth and Gunda Timmel-Reitter

Lyrics M. Uth and H.C. Artmann
Exhibtion: 13. 4. – 27. 5. 11

Gunda Timmel-Reitter and CX Huth tell stories in their pictures and texts, which abduct us from the everyday grind into new perspectives (which could not be more different).

Gunda Timmel-Reitter was the editor of a publishing house for many years. But her fascination for prose and poetry the arts academy graduate lives in her pictures. Inspired by the outstanding works world literature as well as classic musical compositions, she creates in her images atmospheres that in turn tell new stories of their own. Stories that undermine God-given circumstances, that question them and raise fears and desires in us and charge them in an unusual and magical way. She paints over the nearly three-dimensional oil paintings with her fingers only, scratches with a sharp knife to reveal layers lying below to paint over them again. It is a dark-grey, abstract world, which is created there, with always friendly, accented colourful winks that are full of life, raise interest, invite to dive into the obstacles of life.

CX Huth draws, paints, arranges am idiosyncratic world of images and sometimes these result in children’s books that promise to win an award. He uses an off-key, perpetually reinventing, subtle pop art humour. Text fragments play an important role as regards both content and design. His messages keep circulating around the controversy between cultural laws, which are made by people and can therefore be changed and natural laws, which – by contrast – man can use respectfully but never change. His image narrations are preferably read by youthful adults; in families and at gatherings of friends they are even re-enacted. This time, he wants to surprise himself and us with a new story, with figures from a strangely exotic and at the same time familiar unreality in the jungle of opulent urban landscapes with texts of his brother Martin in his usual offbeat way. Images on canvass, collages in small formats as well as nested cubes and texts painted on the wall make zs art KunstRaum a three-dimensional harbinger of the picture book that is about to be created.

With this exhibition we want to stimulate the creative force that is in all of us, in particular in young, unspoilt years. We want to entertain by stimulating the imagination of the individual and the playful altercation in the group. We want to create pleasure from the fireworks of own thoughts. We want to speak to the soul, excite and charge it.
